I attended the July 6 (2025) course along with three other "students".
The one day course was easy paced and conducted in a relaxed welcoming environment. The instructor, James, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He knew his stuff, encouraging questions and providing answers throughout the day. Coming from a trade and instructor background, I feel qualified to critique his training delivery as highly professional.
Safety equipment, tools and directions were all supplied.
For anyone attending this course in the future, I offer the following: Because this course was conducted in the mid of winter and commenced in the cold of morning, everyone was dressed in warm clothing, hats etc. However, it didn't take long before everyone removed their outer wear. Our proximity to the forge along with some easy physical labour, had us all divested of extra clothing.
I have no hesitation in recommending this mini course to any person, male or female with or without any trade type background.
We had such a great time at the herb chopper blacksmith course today. Annie was an excellent trainer – clear, patient, and really knowledgeable. She explained each step of the process really well and was always nearby to offer help and guidance when needed. It was a hands-on, satisfying experience, and we walked away with not just a handmade tool, but also a deeper appreciation of traditional blacksmithing. Very happy with the whole day – highly recommended!
