Went in with pretty low expectation of what I would be able to achieve and was pleasantly surprise with what I came out with. Functioning carving knife that doesn't look too bad at all. The pace of the class was good, Blacksmith Matt worked an example prior to us having a go. He only intervened if we were going to get ourselves into a situation that we couldn't rectify. This intervention was pretty minimal mostly coming through suggestions and advice or showing on his piece. Was an enjoyable 2 days experience well worth the cost.
Every aspect of this course was great. I can talk about the very limited numbers, quality equipment, historic sense of place -but the standout was the knowledge and care factor of our teacher. His personable and empowering approach to teaching was flawless.
Easily the most fun weekend ever. The class is perfectly paced and expertly taught. Forging in such a historic part of Sydney surrounded by old and history making machinery added so much value to the experience that you wouldn’t be able find anywhere else! Starting with a fat piece of metal and leaving with a knife you made yourself and can prepare dinner with was a really awesome feeling! 11/10 recommend, this class KEALs.
