If anyone has the slightest interest in Blacksmithing I highly recommend doing a course that is on offer from Eveleigh Works, the instructors are clear and full of knowledge and very helpful, and it doesn’t matter what level of skill base you are coming from.
Sitting in an office all day this was a great experience to scratch the blacksmith ing itch and walk away at the end of the day with a hand forged hammer.
The small group was led with info that touched on the the history of the site, physics and chemistry of steel, the practical “hit this hard” of forging.
A day well spent!
Fantastic experience and great to have something tangible to take home. This was my first experience at forging and although intimidating at first, the cool, encouraging and steady demeanour of James meant everything went smoothly. The history of the place and the team's passion for it simply added to the overall appreciation.
If you've ever had a hankering to do something like this, don't hesitate.
